We have several dog lovers here in the PetFlow office (including myself) so it was only a matter of time until homemade dog treats were tested. These dog biscuits are full of healthy foods for pups. So, there’s no need to feel guilty about giving these treats as a special reward to your four-legged friends!

The treats are very easy to make and they will last as long as your pup keeps his paws out of the cookie jar! The ingredients are all beneficial to your furry friends and you will probably have everything you need laying around your kitchen.

Pumpkin is particularly good for dogs with a sensitive stomach and it is filled with vitamin A and fiber. Anyone with a dog will know that they go crazy for peanut butter! Peanut butter is a great source of protein and natural fat, and I’ve never met a dog who didn’t drool at the first whiff of peanut butter. Cooked eggs also provide protein to your pooch and structure to your biscuits. Bananas are a great source of potassium and several vitamins. Bananas also provide a touch of sweetness to the treats without adding sugar which can upset your pup’s stomach. With all of these nutritious and delicious ingredients, your furry friends will certainly love these treats! (BONUS: Humans can totally eat these treats too! Although, we can’t honestly tell you they taste as good as your dogs think they taste!)

My family has three dogs and while none of them are particularly picky, two of them have sensitive stomachs. They were all happy to be the official taste testers for these treats. As you can tell by the photos, these treats were a big success with my pups! We can’t wait to try teaching them a new trick using their new favorite treats!

Tucker cannot wait to dig in to these treats

  • ½ cup canned pumpkin
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 Tbs peanut butter
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking tray with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, mix together the canned pumpkin and banana. Add the eggs and peanut butter and mix until incorporated. Mix in the flour and the salt. The dough should be firm and slightly dry.

Once mixed thoroughly, turn the dough out onto a floured work surface and roll the dough until it is ½ inch thick. Use a cookie cutter or a sharp knife to cut dough into pieces. (We used a 2 inch cookie cutter and got about 50 cookies)

Place the cookies about an inch apart on the parchment paper lined baking tray and place in the oven for about 40 minutes or until they are dry and hard.

Let them cool and then watch your pups devour them! Have some paper towels ready for the drool!

Prefer to just buy your treats? Luckily, we have quite the selection!

Don’t forget about your feline friends! We have a recipe especially for cats!

Let us know in the comments if your pup drools over this recipe as much as Tucker, Winston, and Finnegan did!
